What is Astronomy Soup?
Astronomy Soup is what the name implies: an astronomy soup, swirled together like the inner-workings of the Orion Nebula, mayhem with an underlying structure. There are many great websites out there focused on astronomy, groups, retail, how-to's, and a lot that focuses on personal amateur observatories that can often times be hidden in the infinite web of cyberspace. Astronomy Soup is here to help add some organization to the world of astronomy on the world wide web.
My name is Mark Mayhew and I live in central Virginia in the U.S. I have been interested in astronomy since I was a old enough to look at pictures in an old NASA book I had as a kid. That passion for astronomy has never subsided. I have always had questions about what was beyond our world, solar system, and ultimately, our visible universe. I have looked through telescopes for a good portion of my life, but my blinders were removed when I was able to delve into the higher quality telescope market and begin astrophotography. There is a big difference between seeing a faint fuzzy through an eyepiece and the photons that a CCD chip can gather.
So, with that being said, I am in no way an expert, and I learn from a large support group who are very talented at what they do, and I know that when I have a question, I can get an answer. When there is a clear night, you know where you can find me, in the back yard. Through my quest for knowledge, I have felt my way around the web for the best ways to obtain information and find telescope accessories for good prices from excellent retail vendors and via popular classified sites.
Astronomy soup is not just my outlet for my astronomy endeavors and thoughts, it also serves as a gateway for others to use as a stepping stone into the many wonderful websites on the net.
Astronomy Soup looks forward to watching itself evolve and in the mean time continuing to create a network with many great people involved with astronomy, telescopes of any kind, and astrophotography.
Clear Skies,
- Mark
